Newcastle United Football Club is one of the most famous and well-known football clubs in the world. Formed in 1892, the football club has a long and proud history. From its humble beginnings as a football club playing in the local area, Newcastle United has come a long way.

The club is also one of the most successful club in the history of the North East, having won the league title 4 times. Club history
Newcastle United’s story began with a group of boys from the town of Newcastle playing football in a field next to the town centre. The boys were sponsored by the local brewery and, as the club grew, so too did its supporter base. In 1902, the club joined the Northern League and, a few years later, the club reached the first of its many league championships.
Newcastle United was invited to join the Football League and, after a number of successful seasons in the new league, the club became champions for the 4th time in 1927.
Just before the Second World War, Newcastle United was relegate in regional leagues. However, the club quickly bounced back and, in 1948, the club reached the First Division again.
Newcastle United continued to enjoy success in the First and Second Division and, in 1993, the club reached the Premier League. The team had very good results in the first years. The club finished vice champions twice in 1996 and 1997. The team was also relegated twice in 2010 and 2016. But the players were able to reach back the highest league the year after. In 2006, Newcastle United won the UEFA interToto cup defeating the Norvegian team of Lillestrom.
In 2021, the club was bought by a consortium from Saudi Arabia. This acquisition took more than one year to finalise and has nearly aborded multiple times. It also generated critics from groups againts human rights abuses. It has been reported that former prime minister Boris johnson has been involved in this acquisition.
